VW FFL Recap: Week 2
September 22, 2016 | By Jeff Villalobos
Party on Wayne
Is this the real life?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I’m easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me, to me [but it does matter, and I’m going to win. Again]
Fantasy Football is back. Party time, excellent! It is the most wonderful time of the year, and lucky for you the recap is back too. In honor of Wayne’s World and the Bohemian Rhapsody intro, we will do this recap to the tune of the top songs of 1992.
After a successful VW Fantasy draft party, Plays Like a Gurley (formerly Meaghan’s Team), came out of the gate as a strong favorite to make it back to the championship game with her A rated draft performance. Meanwhile, Zeke and Destroy, Zeke-a Virus, and Reg D-fense! wanted to make their years a bit more challenging and scored D’s in draft picking, but those grades can be overcome.
With only two weeks since the start of the season, VW FFL has been a gauntlet, and we only have 3 undefeated teams left: Zeka and Destroy (Kevin’s team – rigged), Gluten 4 Punishment (David’s team – surprised), and Jeff’s Team (is anyone surprised?). Let’s see how all the teams are doing in the rundown:
Gluten 4 Punishment: Baby Got Back into the (Sir) mix (a-lot) of things. David looks to stay in play this season with a strong 2-0 start. With his well balanced and healthy team, G4P could be a force to be reckoned with this year. Can he stay undefeated as a 2-point favorite in the MATCHUP OF THE WEEK against fellow undefeated, Zeke and Destroy?
Zeke and Destroy: At 2-0, KV’s team is making him want to Jump (jump). Just a few more wins and KV will match his win total from last season in half the time! He faces a tough matchup against G4P to hold his undefeated status for at least one more week. We all know that being a 2-point underdog won’t affect his chances of winning because projections don’t matter. What does matter is that if KV can get enough Ws this season, maybe he can pass the Toilet Bowl trophy to a deserving winner.
Jeff’s Team: One. Coming off his number one finish last season, Jeff’s Team has put together a solid start to the 2016 season by starting off 2-0 and delivering the blowout of the week to Reg D-Fense with a 38.64-point win. Carr’s Team, perhaps U 2 could fall victim to Jeff’s Team since you are a 1-point underdog in this week’s matchup.
NFeLons: Life Is a Highway – Hitting the road with the most points in the league (221.00), Caroline’s team is fighting to be a top contender in what appears to be a very balanced league. As a 14-point favorite in this week’s matchup against Superb Owl, she looks to have more Ws than Ls. Watch out for this team.
CatchMeIfYouCan: Juan’s team is looking 2 Legit 2 Quit. Rocking top talent at WR and RB, this team looks like one that can reach the number Juan spot in the league. He lost some depth this week with Danny Woodhead out for the season, but some minor roster fixes will put this team right where it wants to be. Coming in as a 6-point favorite over Uncle Rad this week, we’ll see if CatchMeIfYouCan has what it takes.
Plays Like a Gurley – This Used to Be My Playground. After starting off with a dominant draft class, Meaghan’s team had a strong start but lost a close game to Superb Owl. Ready to claim that number 2 spot again this year, she is a 22-point favorite over Reg D-Fense!
Zeke-a Virus: The Ws (You’re Never Gonna Get It). AT may be using his all-knowing fantasy lineup builder, but he is going to need more than that to break out of the pack. Will he make it to the playoffs this year? (No, not this time).
Superb Owl: Don’t be a fool for your fantasy players, don’t let injured ones Linger on your starting roster, they belong on the bench. Salma’s team pulled off an excellent performance in week 2 and was the second highest scoring team of the week. Filling in the 0 on her active roster will put her in contention to take down a surging NFeLons team.
Coach Taylor’s Wife: Achy Breaky Heart – With two star players injured or suspended (cheater), joint owners Lara and Jenny may just not be able to take it anymore. A 14 point underdog to Zeke-a Virus, the ownership office needs some depth to bring her team to the elite level.
Uncle Rad: “Remember the Time” when Rad’s team was a top team and a favorite going into the playoffs? Seems like so long ago with his new 0-2 record. To be fair, Rad’s team has been scored on the most of all teams with a whopping 229.42. Can he turn this season around before it is too late? He is a 6-point underdog this week against CatchMeIfYouCan.
Reg D-Fense!: The End of the Road has not come for Reg D-Fense. Like the other goose egg teams, there is plenty of time to rebound on the year. Lindsay’s team is made some roster moves that didn’t payout last weekend, but with 11 weeks to go, it’s not unnatural for the Boyz on her team to become Men and come back.
Carr’s Team: Smells Like Teen Spirit – In dead last, it was time for a quarterback change. Nick, VW’s newest law clerk, is tasked with making this team relevant (billable hours?). Not only is this team sporting an 0-2 record, it has only scored 132.88 total points over two weeks. Gluten 4 Punishment scored 126.06 in week 1.
With 11 weeks to go in the season, anything can happen. A few top players have already been injured. Make sure to check your lineups for tonight’s games. Good luck.
Party on Garth.
