All the {Startup} Ladies

May 29, 2015   |   By Meaghan Johnston

It’s no big secret that women are underrepresented in the startup community. Back in 2012, Startup Genome released a report detailing the percentage of women participating in various startup ecosystems (spoiler alert: it wasn’t great). And just this week, TechCrunch released its statistics on female founders of US-based startups. The good news is that the participation rate of women in founding startups has almost doubled since 2009. The not-so-good? The participation rate is still only 18%. However, we here at VW are proud to work with some amazing women who are doing big things in all types of industries (check out our Facebook and Twitter pages to see some shoutouts!), and helping to grow the female presence in the startup world. And we’re fortunate to live and work in a city that promotes ladies getting out there and making things happen! That’s why we are excited to be sponsoring the Dallas Startup Weekend: Women’s Edition this weekend, May 29th-31st. My colleague, Lara, and I will be there to connect with all of the bright participants, and we are both looking forward to seeing exciting new ideas develop over the course of the weekend. If you’re there, come say hi, and be sure to check in next week for a recap of what is sure to be a great couple of days!
